West Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
The Porter Residence, located high in the Hollywood Hills is designed as a procession of spaces that move one through the project with anticipation of the view to come. The first event is the motor court where solid concrete walls close the house to the street. The concrete is cut to reveal the front door, a piece of sculpture unto itself. To the left of the front door are translucent glass walls that conceal a children’s playroom, while filling it with soft light. All living spaces display views to the west Los Angeles basin. The house surrounds a rectangular stretch of lawn that flanks an infinity edge swimming pool. Patios hug the edge of the hill and embrace the swimming pool to create an entertainment environment. On the west of the lawn is the new pool house, designed as a series of rotated objects to address the dynamic 360 degree views while keeping within the stylistic theme of the original house. Within the Porter house, the master bath is designed as a luxurious spa, overlooking the jet liner views. The bathroom is tranquil, serene and bathed in soft light.
