Belmont Freeman Architects is an award-winning, New York City-based design firm that serves institutional, commercial, and residential clients. The firm enjoys a reputation for innovative design, highly personalized service, and efficient management of the most complex construction, renovation, and restoration projects. For its work, Belmont Freeman Architects has been honored by the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers and other organizations.
The firm's principal, Belmont Freeman, is an alumnus of Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Freeman, informally known as Monty, established his independent architectural practice in 1986. Today, with a staff of eight architects and designers, Belmont Freeman Architects has built work in North America, Europe and Asia.
The firm's projects, featured regularly in the international design press, span a rich spectrum from large scale academic and civic facilities to art spaces, retail stores, and private residences. Belmont Freeman established his independent architectural practice in 1986, as founding principal of Freeman & Pizer, Architects. In 1994, Mr. Freeman became sole proprietor of the firm, which was renamed Belmont Freeman Architects. Previously, from 1977 to 1986, Mr. Freeman was a senior designer and Associate at Davis, Brody & Associates in New York City.
Belmont Freeman, informally known as Monty, has earned a wide reputation as an innovative designer, a progressive practitioner and a scholar. His work is regularly featured in the architecture and design press, and has received numerous awards from the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers and other professional and civic organizations. His client list includes major universities and cultural institutions, as well as corporations, developers, and private residential clients.
Monty Freeman was the President of the Board of Directors of Storefront for Art & Architecture, an internationally known not-for-profit design gallery in New York City, from 1998 to 2007. He lectures widely on his work and other areas of architectural and historical research, and is a frequent guest critic for the review of student work at universities throughout the Northeast. He is on the board of directors of the Society of Architectural Historians, and has served on the Board of Governors of the Association of Yale Alumni.
An American of Cuban descent, Mr. Freeman is regarded as an expert on Cuban architecture, a subject on which he speaks and publishes widely. In 2004, he co-produced the landmark exhibition "Architecture and Revolution in Cuba, 1959-1969," at Storefront for Art and Architecture.
Monty Freeman is comfortable conducting business in English, Spanish, and French. He is licensed as an architect in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and holds certification from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
At Belmont Freeman Architects, Ms. Stapleton has been involved in a variety of residential, educational, and institutional projects, participating in the entire process of architectural production, from design conception through construction. Prior to joining Belmont Freeman Architects, Ms. Stapleton’s work with The S/L/A/M Collaborative in Glastonbury, CT included the programming, planning and design of multiple independent and higher educational facilities. In addition, Ms. Stapleton has been a guest critic at the University of Hartford, and has volunteered for The Architectural League.
Luay Bahoora is an accomplished designer and project manager with thirteen years of experience in the field of architecture. Mr. Bahoora has partnered closely with Belmont Freeman on numerous projects of varying programmatic type, scale, and budget. Prior to joining Belmont Freeman Architects, Mr. Bahoora served as an Associate at Stonely Pelsinski architects Neukomm (SPaN) where he successfully managed a variety of high end commercial, retail, and residential projects. Working closely with clients, consultants, and contractors, Mr. Bahoora is well experienced in all phases of the construction process, from schematic design to project completion.
