Over the past quarter century, Hutker Architects has become the premier, custom residential architecture firm for Cape Cod and the Islands. The firm’s staff of thirty professionals represents all the requisite areas of expertise from general architecture, to interiors, and property planning. People

Mark A. Hutker, AIA
Principal & Founder

A registered architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Mark is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture and Art with a Bachelor of Architecture degree (1982). After working with Jon McKee in Boston, Mark joined Dunn Brady Associates in 1985 on Martha’s Vineyard. He bought the firm in 1987, and renamed it Hutker Architects. Mark has served on various civic associations and was the Governor’s appointee on the Dukes County Regional Housing Authority where he served for 5 years, Commissioner of the West Tisbury Historic District Commission for 9 years, and the Board of Island Elderly Housing for 17 years. Particularly dedicated to design education, Mark is a long-standing Director and co-creator of the Lyceum Fellowship Committee, which was founded in 1985 and awards annual travel fellowships to architecture students. Mark has served as a speaker or member of design juries for Residential Design and Construction, Build Boston, Residential Design Awards Jury, Custom Home Awards Jury, Design Leadership Summit, Boston Society of Architects’ Interior Design Awards Jury, and Un-built Design Awards Jury. In 2008, the New England Design Hall of Fame inducted Mark as an honoree. Mark’s first book, Heirlooms to Live In; Homes in a New Regional Vernacular, was released in August 2010. Currently, Mark is a member of the Board of Falmouth Academy and liaison for the Housing Assistance Corporation with the Boston Architectural College, helping to create a net zero affordable housing prototype. He and his family live in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
Philip Regan
Principal

Phil Regan, a 1988 graduate of the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Architecture, joined Hutker Architects in 1988 and serves as Principal and the Senior Project Designer for Hutker Architects’ Vineyard office. A Vineyard native with a deep understanding of the nature of the coastal landscape, Phil brings over 20 years of professional design and development experience with residential and public projects on the island. Phil has combined his skills with an unfettered understanding of the region, delivering throughout the island defining projects that complement and withstand the beauty and nature of the landscape, while also challenging it with a fresh definition of a traditional esthetic.
Phil heads up the Vineyard office of Hutker Architects, mentoring over 15 talented architects and designers. Phil is a founding member of both the Cottage City Historic District Commission and Vineyard Baseball, Inc. and currently sits as a Historic District Commissioner and as a consultant for Vineyard Baseball, Inc. Phil also serves on the Board of Directors of the Martha’s Vineyard Little League and as a youth sports coach for the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club. He and his family reside in Oak Bluffs.
Charles e. Orr, AIA
Principal

Charles Orr is a 1986 graduate of North Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Architecture, a Bachelor of Science degree, as well as a minor in Business Administration. He is a Registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and has been registered with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards since 1993. He joined Hutker Architects in 1993 and provides over 20 years of architectural experience with both residential and commercial development throughout New England and the Northeast. Charles serves as Principal and Senior Project Designer of the Falmouth Office, navigating an architectural staff of 15 to lead the residential design front in New England, as well as projects on the East Coast and central U.S. His design passion is to focus directly on our clients’ desires and lifestyles, uniting that excitement within the context of the environment they choose to live in. Additionally, Charles oversees the continued development of the standards of professional excellence for which the firm has become well known. Charles remains active in the industry and the community through associations with the Council of Residential Architecture, Falmouth Historical District Commission, Cape Cod Habitat for Humanity, Falmouth Youth Baseball, Friends of Falmouth Dogs, and the American Institute of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects. Charles and his family are residents of Falmouth.
Lyman S. A. Perry, AIA
Business Development

Lyman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts with a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science, served as an Officer in the United States Naval Submarine Service from 1960 to 1965 and represented the United States Crew Team at the 1960 Olympics. In 1973, he combined his lifelong love of the sea with his love of architecture in forming Lyman Perry Architects, on the Island of Nantucket. Lyman joined Hutker Architects in 2010. Working through the Nantucket Studio, he will lead design development and foster new client relationships while working alongside HA’s award-winning project teams. He has overseen more than 200 projects ranging from private housing additions to prominent residential designs across the Island of Nantucket. His award-winning work on The Nantucket Golf Club is among his most notable projects. Lyman is a nationally-recognized architect who has received numerous awards for exceptional architecture including the 2009 Wall Street Journal, Dream Home Awards, Custom Traditional Home of the Year and Best in Interior Design and 2002 Historic Preservation Award. Having worked in the Nantucket National Historic District for over 30 years, Lyman currently devotes a portion of his time as a board member of the Nantucket Preservation Trust and the Great Harbor Yacht Club. He divides his time between his 18th century historic home in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and the home he designed in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
