Tucson, AZ - 2003
"Home of the year" Tucson Lifestyle / AIA Award 2005 | 3200 sf
The emerging sustainability movement must not forget design aesthetics. We designed this modern home with both in mind. Built in 2001 with an energy saving ICF concrete wall system and and a roof shading strategy. The first roof garden in Arizona is above the heated and cooled spaces of the home. Native desert grasses and small flowering ground cover plants help with summer cooling via micro-shading from the leaves of the plants. The main part of the house opens seamlessly out onto a huge shaded patio and pool.
