The 1950's cruciform plan had good bones, but needed some intense rework at its central crossing point, which was claustrophobic and dark. The entry was awkward and small. We re-oriented the entry to a view of a great backyard via a larger entry foyer. The kitchen escaped the central crossing and gained direct access to the dining area. While demolishing a dropped ceiling for a central skylight, we uncovered salvageable wood beams that highlight the new entry to the living space.
