tucson, az - 2009
Ongoing renovation of an old 1927 historic bungalow in the heart of Tucson, AZ. Once finished the home will boast a tankless water heater with supplemental solar heater, a grid tied solar electric panel, grey water collection cistern and irrigation system, and a roof top garden. Single pane glass will be exchanged for dual pane glazing, R-30 denim insulation will be added into the attic space, and a porch overhang will be added to the south to protect from the heat gain generated by the desert sun. All of this will be done without changing the outward appearance of the home. It will still blend into the neighborhood like an old lady’s station wagon, but it will be a souped up eco-hotrod under the hood.
The project is still ongoing, moving forward as money and time permits, but has served as the testing ground for several ideas and design experiments and will always be in process even after its official completion point.
