Ogrydziak/Prillinger Architects is a San Francisco-based design studio, focusing on progressive design that specializes in the inclusion of new media and digital technologies in architecture. Established in 2000, OPA has been globally recognized for projects that reflect a dense layering of architectural, cultural, and technological issues. In the interest of broadening the range of spatial organization strategies, the office also sustains a commitment to research work that explores the formal consequences of various structuring field conditions. Projects range in scale from institutions to private homes, as well as interior and object design. While originating as a response to specific requirements of site, program and client, each project evolves as an exploration of its own internal formal possibilities rather than reflecting a predetermined architectural style. As a result, the work is distinctive for its conceptual clarity and strong visual presence. Both partners attended Princeton University and are currently Friedman Assistant Professors at the University of California, Berkeley.
Luke Ogrydziak was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and grew up in Northern California. He studied at Princeton University, where he received both his Bachelor of Arts in Architecture summa cum laude in 1992, and his Master of Architecture degree in 1995. (Selected studio instructors include: Mark Wigley, Michael Graves, Mario Gandelsonas, Thomas Leeser, and Peter Eisenman.) At Princeton, he received the Shellman Award for architectural representation. After graduating, Mr. Ogrydziak worked as an Associate Design Principal in the San Francisco office of Ogrydziak Architects. Ogrydziak/Prillinger was formed with Zoë Prillinger in 2000.
Zoë Prillinger was born in Decatur, Illinois — with US, Australian, and British citizenship. She studied at Princeton University, where she received both her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture magna cum laude with a certificate in European Cultural Studies in 1992, and her Master of Architecture degree in 1994. At Princeton, she received the Shanley Award for European architectural research. Ms. Prillinger has worked in architecture offices in Melbourne, Paris, New York City, and San Francisco, and formed Ogrydziak/Prillinger with Luke Ogrydziak in 2000. Ms. Prillinger is also an architectural design studio instructor at the University of California at Berkeley (Fall Terms, 2000-2003; Spring + Fall 2004; Spring 2005).
