Assembledge+ is a full service architecture and development firm steeped in the history and continuing innovation of modern design. Both principals share a deep passion for contemporary world architecture and its particular execution in the temperate Southern California climate. With extensive experience in the design and execution of residential and commercial projects, Assembledge+ brings high levels of design sensitivity, technical expertise, and hands-on principal involvement to every project, large or small.
Assembledge+ was founded on the theory of collaboration: collaboration with clients, collaboration with contractors and tradespeople, collaboration with building officials and public agencies, and collaboration within the design team of architects and engineers. The name Assembledge was deliberately chosen to convey our passion for "assembling" all the often complex elements of the project realization process and our commitment to placing our work firmly on the leading "edge" of contemporary discourse. The + signifies our approach of constantly searching for better, more efficient, more innovative ways to construct modern living and working environments and our refusal to accept traditional limitations as to what can be achieved within typical constraints. At Assembledge+ we are steadfastly commited to transforming ideas into reality.
David Thompson founded Assembledge+ in 1997. He has over 14 years of diverse architectural experience in design and management as well as in the production and construction aspects of residential and commercial projects. As a senior designer/project manager, he designed and managed several award winning residential, multifamily, and commercial projects including the internationally published Jai House, Café R & D for the Houston's Group, and the Habitat 825 condominium project next to Schindler's King's Road house in West Hollywood. David was raised in the heart of Hollywood and retains a deep knowledge of Los Angeles and a commitment to extending the city's history of architectural innovation. He is an accomplished furniture designer with an expertise in methods of fabrication.
Kevin Southerland joined Assembledge+ as a partner in 2005. He received his BA in architecture from U.C. Berkeley and, after a year at London's Architectural Association, went on to receive his Masters degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture. Kevin spent two years working at Frank O. Gehry Architects and went on to work for several other prominent L.A. firms including Neil Denari Architects, Gensler and, most recently as a senior designer/project manager for Lorcan O'Herlihy Architects. He has accumulated over 16 years of design experience on projects ranging from the Walt Disney Concert Hall to post production studios for 20th Century Fox, and offices for Revolution Studios as well as extensive residential and multifamily housing experience. As a native Angeleno, Kevin is fascinated with the diverse urban fabric of Los Angeles. His commitment to innovative architecture is matched only by his enthusiasm for crafting serenely beautiful spaces.
