COLAB was established in 1994 as a collaborative studio between architects and designers from four other disciplines who believe that a multi-disciplinary approach to challenging projects inspires innovation and lasting design solutions. Without sacrificing efficiency or style, COLAB uses the discipline and depth of architectural practices to provide hierarchy when including other creative talents. As a result, COLAB designers have arrived at a unique methodology for producing projects in a more comprehensive fashion. COLAB also collaborates closely with our clients. With the capability to visualize a project from simple sketches to detailed 3-D digital simulations, COLAB gives clients the ability to see alternatives quickly and efficiency. Ultimately, our goal is to achieve an original solution to match our client’s specific needs. We believe that open dialogue between client and designer result in design solutions that have more depth, sophistication and beauty.
With the formation of three studios focusing on separate areas of design, COLAB maintains an agenda to produce a variety of design work, with emphasis in the fields of architecture, interior design, urban design, and entertainment based architecture and branding. Whether big or small, COLAB projects have a specific mark – collaborative, innovative, efficient and lasting.

Mr. Gabriel received his master’s degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, where his thesis focused on a critical approach to public space within multi-modal centers. Gabriel went on to work for small design firms on projects ranging from private residences and summer camps to student unions and campus master plans. The success of these projects earned several local and national design awards, and shared one common element: an intense and sensitive focus on the integration of site, climate and context.
Mr. Gabriel moved to Portland after finishing his travels that were the result of being awarded the Rotch Traveling Scholarship, a prestigious award given by the Boston Society of Architects. Since joining COLAB, Gabriel has worked as a project designer and manager for several large scale urban projects and high-rise structures in the U.A.E and Egypt.
