Hufft Projects — Springfield, Missouri
Porch House by Hufft Projects is located just west of Springfield, Missouri, and was designed in response to a brief that sought to reinterpret traditional agrarian forms within a modern language. The project explores this duality by referencing the proportions and archetypes of rural buildings, while introducing contemporary elements and detailing to create a hybrid residence. Site orientation and context were key drivers, with the house positioned to capture southern views over an expansive valley. The plan is organized in an L-shape, with the master suite occupying the western wing, providing separation and privacy from the home’s other spaces. A defining feature is the large porch, oriented east and south, which is sheltered by a ten-foot cantilevering canopy. This element serves as both an entry sequence and a key social space. Sustainable strategies include a geothermal system, carefully considered solar orientation, and the use of high-performance glazing throughout.
