The project is about space, light, color, and connectivity. Four originally closed rooms and a previously isolated side yard were transformed conjoined, and opened up for greater transparency and contiguity between functions. The house, and its inhabitants, were renewed by the simple re-organization of the ground floor. The result is one long gracious space organized by large, low volumes that consolidate program at the hearth, the basement stair, and the kitchen island. Upon entry a glass wall of sliding doors greets the visitor inviting them into the rejuvenated garden which acts as parallel linear room extending program elements outwards from the interior space allowing them to overlap and enhance one another. The program intensive volumes are then punched and excavated to reveal color and materiality unique to each functional element. rn
