The design for this sleek, modern guesthouse was inspired by coastal vistas, specifically the image of driftwood on a California beach, wedged between boulders and surf.rnrnThe ground floor function as a pool house and offers all the amenities of the quintessential retreat–bathroom, kitchen and entertaining room with bar – making it a perfect place to spend a day by the pool. Contrasting with the fractured volumes and angled planes of the first level, the upper level guest suite is a geometrically restrained box crafted entirely from weathered cedar, which is reminiscent of driftwood. the suite also features a deck that overlooks the expansive pool. A waterfall flows from the edge of the deck into the pool, creating a striking "curtain" effect. The entertaining space features a sliding roof and walls that facilitates complete flexibility with the outdoors; the room can be as transparent or as private as the occupant desires.
