Following the success of Silver Lake's modern Vietnamese eatery, Gingergrass owner John Himelstein decided to expand beyond their busy 1700 sf restaurant to a cozy addition next store in the form of a beer lounge - Bia Hoi.rnrnThe concept behind the newly launched space is to function as a bakery selling sandwiches, salads and pastries during the day, and transition to a hip neighborhood beer lounge by night. rnrnThe challenge of designing a space for two functions was solved with a movable counter that pushes forward to create a daytime to-go atmosphere with a skylight above for natural light and pushes back to create an intimate seating area for the evening crowd.rnrnThe material palette was kept simple to accommodate the two functions and a cut through was created to share the acoustic vibe between the spaces.
