Studio Zerbey — north of Cashmere, Washington in the Nahahum Canyon

The Nahahum Canyon Residence by Studio Zerbey features expansive glazing and a flat roof, set on a remote hillside.

The Nahahum Canyon Residence by Studio Zerbey is located north of Cashmere, Washington, where it is anchored into a hillside within the Nahahum Canyon. The house takes its form from a series of concrete retaining walls, shaping the structure to the terrain while its east-west axis and deep overhangs are arranged for optimal solar exposure and to frame broad canyon vistas. The main entry rises as a two-story volume highlighted by full-height glazing on both the north and south walls, establishing a visual connection to the surrounding landscape, particularly emphasizing the down-canyon views. The primary living spaces, including the living room and kitchen, are arranged to the east on the main floor, accompanied by a powder room and utility area positioned within the section of the house tucked into the hillside. Upstairs, the plan includes a master suite, a guest bedroom with an adjacent bathroom, and a loft-style flexible space open to the living room below, maintaining visual connectivity between levels while maximizing daylight and outlooks.
