Substance Architecture — Copper Mountain, CO
The Weigel Residence, designed by Substance Architecture, is a 4,000-square-foot vacation home situated on a quarter-acre lot in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Commissioned by a couple for use with their four children, the house responds to a wooded site within a residential development. The design centers on two geometrically distinct forms: a single-story post-and-beam pavilion that accommodates primary living and entertainment spaces, and a four-story tower holding service spaces and bedrooms. This arrangement shapes two landscape experiences: the pavilion immerses daily life in a sheltered, forested setting, while the elevated tower provides broad views across the Rocky Mountains, reflecting the clients’ desire to engage with both the woods and mountain vistas.
