The studio

Derrington Building Studio was established early in 2010. We maintain a diverse range of clients and projects, which is intentional and desired. From houses, to educational facilities, to warehouses, each provides a new challenge and offers learning opportunities that would be missed with a myopic focus on a single building type.

We strive to address each project for what it is. This involves listening for our clients’ unvoiced needs, researching the meaning and function of the building and intelligently resolving every issue. Purpose, style, cost, constructability, and community and environmental impact all weigh into the final product, with perfect balance being our ultimate goal.

Getting started with Derrington Building Studio

What to expect when you contact an architect — general guidance from Architects List.

The first conversation: Most residential architects start with a short call or meeting to hear about your project and see whether it’s a good fit for both of you.
What to have ready: Where the project is, roughly what you’d like to build, and a budget and timing if you know them. A few photos of work you like help too. “Not sure yet” is a fine answer.
Fees: How fees work varies by firm. Some first meetings are free; some firms charge for a site visit or feasibility study. It’s fine to ask Derrington Building Studio directly.
