Hufft Projects — Mission Hills, KS, 2012
Baulinder Haus, completed in 2012 by Hufft Projects, is located in Mission Hills, Kansas. The project sits near a well-known home by Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer, and its design draws direct inspiration from this modernist context. The brief called for a contemporary residence that responds to its neighbor’s aesthetic, incorporating straight-forward forms and emphasizing honest construction details. The house’s massing is conceived as stacked boxes, with living areas on the ground floor and private rooms above. The plan arranges these volumes in a u-shape around a private courtyard, extending the living spaces outward and creating continuity between the indoors and outdoors.
