The Moore Residence, designed by Shugart Wasse, sits along the shore of Lake Washington. The project responds to its lakeside setting and the client’s request for a family-oriented house that connects closely with the outdoors. The design emphasizes flow between interior and exterior spaces, with large windows and expansive doors creating opportunities for movement directly out to the water. The site terraces down to the lake, and gathering areas are arranged at each step to extend daily living beyond the home’s footprint. The house features a low-profile, undulating roof that follows the topography, reducing its visual impact from the hillside and facilitating a measured transition toward the water. The simple massing is complemented by materials common to the region, including wood, stone, glass, and steel, interpreted in a contemporary manner. Internally, spaces are organized to provide both privacy and openness, with communal areas oriented for lake views, and finishes kept deliberately clean and modern at the client’s request.
