Silo Architecture + Design Hillside House

Silo Architecture + Design — Hillside House

Description

This house - and its attached studio - sits on a wooded, steeply sloping 5 acre site. The structure was carefully sited in order to avoid a wetland at the base of the hill. Challenges presented by the slope were met by placing the long axis of the house parallel to the contours, by stepping the different volumes into the land, and through the use of landscape terracing. Cleared areas will be re-planted with native species.rnrnDaylight floods the house through generous and carefully placed windows. Design features include an attached studio/office/guest space with a seperate entrance, and a large daylit basement space for entertaining (with the potential for a future wine cellar). The house employs multiple sustainable design and building features, including the extensive use of cedar siding milled from trees felled on the site.
