Silo Architecture + Design — 2007
This house, while definitely contemporary, recalls the agrarian structures that existed – and still exist – on or near the site. An extensive pre-design/site analysis phase of work was conducted (with consultant Mark Johnson), the results of which provided the basis for design and construction phases to follow. The house was carefully placed on the site in order to take advantage of solar orientation, prevailing summer breezes, views, site drainage, existing vegetation, privacy, etc., and great care was taken in design and construction to keep as much of the existing garden and orchard intact. Respect for the site and its history are manifest in the form of the structures, the materials used, the structures’ placement on the site, and the employment of multiple sustainable design and building practices.
