Corum Residence

Corum Residence is a single-family home situated on a four-acre site outside Pella, Iowa. Designed for clients seeking to simplify and reduce their domestic footprint, the project responds to both a rural context and a desire for measured living space. The structure is composed primarily of a galvanized metal-clad volume set atop a cast-in-place concrete plinth, forming a clear architectural profile oriented to capture site views. Public living areas are located along the side of the house with direct access to the landscape, while bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged more privately within the deeper reaches of the metal-clad and concrete form. The design organizes three levels through elements such as maple and acrylic shelving, an open-riser staircase, and a stacked fireplace, creating both visual connections and spatial delineation across the section.
