The Bold Tahoe Lodge Transformation by DNM Architect reimagines a 4,077 square foot mountain residence in Crystal Bay, Nevada. Originally constructed in the 1940s and modified in the 1980s, the home had long served as a family retreat but required significant updates to meet contemporary needs and improve comfort. The brief called for a modernization that respected the traditional Tahoe lodge character while enhancing functionality, efficiency, and year-round livability.
Key interventions included a comprehensive remodel of all spaces, with the architectural strategy focused on major design moves to clarify circulation and reorganize interiors. The upper level features a timber-framed great room anchored by a granite fireplace, with four guest suites and a renovated kitchen. The lower level was updated to include two additional bedroom suites, a media room, sauna, laundry facilities, and incorporates natural boulders present on the site. Upgrades addressed the building envelope with new high-performance windows and doors, extensive foundation repairs, and the installation of energy-efficient HVAC systems. Collaborating with specialists such as Henrybuilt for the kitchen and DEI Engineers for structural input ensured the transformation achieved both technical and aesthetic objectives while maintaining a dialogue with the house’s rustic origins.
