Mateu Architecture Incorporated is a full service architecture firm with offices in Palmetto Bay, Florida. In 2002, after 13 years as President and Director of Design at Mateu Carreno Rizo & Partners, Roney J. Mateu, AIA established Mateu Architecture Incorporated in order to continue the commitment to design excellence, business integrity and professional ethics that was started in 1979 when he first opened his architectural practice. As a diverse firm, Mateu Architecture is organized to meet the needs of a discerning client base in the private and public sector, combining design excellence and unparalleled service. Over the years, the firms under the direction of Roney Mateu have consistently been recognized as being in the cutting edge of the design process. As a result of a consistent vision and commitment to excellence in design, Mateu holds over 54 Design Awards from the American Institute of Architects given during the past 30 years, more than awarded to any other individual in the State of Florida in that period. Mateu’s work has been published in numerous newspapers, magazines and books throughout the world. Mateu Architecture Incorporated is a strong supporter of professional associations such as the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Roney Mateu has served in numerous positions in the Florida Association and the Miami Chapter, including serving as its president in 1993, in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew. Although the majority of the projects completed by Mateu during the last 30 years are located in Florida, our experience includes projects in Georgia, North Carolina, the Caribbean and Central America. In 1992, Roney J. Mateu, AIA was bestowed the Award of Honor for Design, the highest design recognition for a body of work over the years given by the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects. At the time, he was only the fifteenth recipient of this award and continues to be the youngest recipient ever of this Honor. In 1997, Mateu’s firm was selected "Firm of the Year" by the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and "Architectural Firm of the Year" in 1998 by the Hispanic American Business Association. In 1995, Mateu was the first recipient of the Silver Medal for Design, the highest Award given by the Miami Chapter of the AIA. Then in 1999, the Florida Association of American Institute of Architects honored his firm as the "Firm of the Year." In 2000, Mateu was inducted into the Miami Chapter of the AIA Hall of Fame for his contributions to design. Also in 2000, the Florida Association of American Institute of Architects bestowed Mateu Architects with the "2000 Millennium Award of Honor for Design, Twentieth Century Decade 1981-1990." In 2010, Roney J. Mateu was named the "Architect of the Year" by the Miami Chapter, AIA.
