Bouldin 01 is a contemporary residence by Brian Dillard Architecture, positioned alongside a creek and set beneath mature trees. The program responds to the site’s floodplain by raising the ground floor on a cantilever, minimizing impact and providing elevated views into the surrounding landscape. This first level contains open-plan living and dining areas, which extend outward through floor-to-ceiling glazing, connecting the interior directly to the outdoors. The use of a locally sourced D’Hanis brick fireplace provides a spatial anchor within the open ground floor. Above, the upper level appears as a floating volume clad in weathering COR-TEN steel, containing the master suite, an art studio, and a guest apartment. The material palette of reflective glass and rusted steel allows the house to shift in appearance depending on light and season, blending with tree canopies and creekside vegetation. The structural form and selected materials both acknowledge the character of the site and engage the changing moods of the landscape.
