Clawson Duplexes

Clawson Duplexes is a multifamily residential project by Mark Odom Studio, situated on a one-acre, densely wooded site in South Austin. The design process began by subdividing the property into four separate lots, each supporting a duplex to yield a total of eight individual homes along a shared drive. The presence of mature trees and distinct view corridors strongly influenced the site planning, with building footprints and orientations responding directly to these natural constraints and amenities. The architecture adopts a contemporary approach, employing a consistent palette of materials and forms throughout the development. However, each unit is subtly differentiated to provide individual identity while maintaining coherence across the project. Large windows and carefully positioned openings maximize privacy and frame selected vistas, creating opportunities for residents to engage with both the interior and exterior spaces without visual interruption from neighboring units. While the materiality and massing unify the project, specific details within each unit reflect unique relationships to their immediate site context, further reinforcing a sense of place within the collective whole.
