Sagaponac House was conceived by Stan Allen Architect as a prototype weekend residence for a wooded site in Eastern Long Island, completed in 2007. Designed without a predetermined client, the project formed part of a group of experimental houses commissioned for a new residential development, each exploring alternative approaches to regional architecture and use. The design is organized around the adaptability of its interior spaces, with layouts intended to accommodate a range of functions rather than prescribing single, fixed uses. Material selections emphasize natural finishes, continuing a dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The architecture also draws on elements of local vernacular forms, interpreting them in a contemporary manner without direct imitation.
