South Surf Road, Silver Beach is a 3,800-square-foot private residence situated on an oceanfront site along Bradley Road in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Designed primarily as a vacation home for a family with long-standing ties to the Jersey shore, the project responds to its sandy barrier island setting and the family's seasonal use patterns.
The design references classic Shingle Style beach houses of the Northeast while incorporating elements influenced by the architecture of communities such as Seaside and Rosemary Beach in Florida. The residence reinterprets these vernacular styles for contemporary living, resulting in a blend of traditional and modern details. The plan organizes mechanical, laundry, and storage functions along the north side in order to maximize southern and eastern exposure to ocean views. Constructed before Hurricane Sandy, the house survived the storm undamaged despite its oceanfront location.
