CLYBOURN MANOR

Clybourn Manor, completed by Kurt Krueger Architect in 2022, is a comprehensive renovation and expansion of a former Roy O. Disney residence in Toluca Lake. The project focused on retaining the original storybook cottage character while adapting the house to contemporary living. Key interventions included adding a second story within the original roof massing, reorganizing the interior to enlarge the kitchen, add dual offices and an informal den, and locating all bedrooms upstairs. The site, a prominent corner lot, required architectural moves that maintained the home's proportions and visibility from multiple street angles. The new stair wraps around the existing brick fireplace and features a vaulted ceiling lined in medium-tone hemlock with a skylight, introducing natural light and dynamic geometry. The exterior blends painted white stucco and brick with dark gray roofing and light gray window surrounds. Black metal windows and floor-to-ceiling doors update the fenestration. Inside, the palette includes warm white walls, white oak flooring, blonde and darker woods, brass, and deep greens and charcoals, supplemented by custom tilework and curated collectible displays. Outdoor areas, designed by Benincasa Collective, include low-water native landscaping, sculpted plantings, an outdoor kitchen with concrete counters, patios finished in dark cobblestone, and multiple entertainment zones.
