Brentwood House

Brentwood House, completed in 2023 by Dutton Architects, is a comprehensive renovation and expansion of a modern residence in Los Angeles. The project involved a significant reworking of an existing structure typical of Crestwood Hills and Kenter Canyon, including a new second floor to accommodate dedicated writers' rooms at each end, oriented to capture views of the mountains and the ocean. The renovation also reconstructed an entire wing to create new bedrooms, a kitchen, and a housekeeper's room, while the rest of the house—comprising the living room, dining room, and master suite—was updated to enhance functionality and flow. The architectural intervention focused on refining circulation, introducing a custom CNC-milled aluminum screen and a new entry vestibule with integrated storage to establish a sense of arrival. Interiors were developed in collaboration with Lauren Zuckerman, blending contemporary furnishings with midcentury modern elements and antique pieces such as a Tabriz rug and a Dhoku carpet from Istanbul. The dining room was redesigned as an intimate nook with darker finishes and curated furniture selections, aligning with the house’s modern yet softened material palette.
