Frame House

Frame House is a contemporary residence in Raleigh, North Carolina, designed by Tonic Design & Construction and completed in 2021. The project responds to client priorities of defined privacy and open gathering spaces, as well as distinct site characteristics. The planning centers on a compact programmatic bar set alongside a sequence of structural frames that shape both the building’s expression and its relationship to the surroundings. The architecture leverages these frames to delineate thresholds between public and private zones, while extending the social space toward the exterior. Interior spaces are organized to accommodate art display and social interaction, with careful attention to detailing and tectonic articulation. The framing system was conceived as a unifying element that governs the spatial experience and the house’s integration with its site.
