BLUE RIDGE RESIDENCE

Blue Ridge Residence stands on a 200-acre farm in Albermarle County, Virginia, conceived to engage directly with expansive views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The project brief focused on integrating the house with its rural setting while making the landscape central to the experience of living within it. The siting and organization respond both to the sweeping views and to the forested character of the site, influencing the form and movement through the house. The design arranges the residence as a series of elongated, asymmetrical pavilions, oriented to capture the landscape in different ways. Circulation moves linearly through the house and is set perpendicular to mountain views, shaping movement both physically and visually. Roof planes are broken and angled to reinforce this sectional split, and are lifted to define separate public and private areas. The procession between pavilions is enclosed with glass, creating a transparent passage that splays outwards to dissolve boundaries between interior and forest. The private wing projects into the tree canopy, while the public spaces feature broad glass façades to invite uninterrupted views to the mountains beyond.
