Presidio Heights Residence

Presidio Heights Residence is a 7,000-square-foot renovation by Butler Armsden Architects in San Francisco, completed in 2025. The project involved reworking a Beaux-Arts house to maintain its historic exterior character while updating the interiors for contemporary living. The restoration of the façade ensured continuity with the neighborhood's architectural context, while the interior design aimed for timelessness balanced between modern and traditional references. Inside, a central stair with curved lines receives daylight from a grand skylight and is highlighted by custom cast glass lens sconces. Original living room windows were restored, maintaining the scale and quality of natural light. The kitchen features subdued colors and a mix of metal, limestone, and marble surfaces. Throughout the home, the color palette transitions subtly from space to space, emphasizing calm and cohesion. The primary suite is defined by lime plaster walls and illuminated by a bronze-and-porcelain chandelier. The adjoining bathroom includes a custom-carved stone tub.
