Located in the Bear River Range near Bear Lake, Utah, Boar Shoat was completed by Imbue Design in 2019 as an off-grid gathering retreat. Commissioned by a client seeking distance from city distractions rather than public health concerns, the project serves as a remote 'crash pad' and base camp to support family recreation and simple shelter in a highly isolated setting. The design consists of three compact structures arranged around a central outdoor living area, all sheltered beneath a broad open-air pavilion. The three buildings—main residence, guest quarters, and storage—define the perimeter of the outdoor room, acting as windbreaks while also orienting framed views toward Paris Peak. The arrangement supports both social interaction and privacy. Supervision of environmental comfort without external utilities shaped the project, leading to passive solar siting, seasonally tuned roof overhangs, and energy supplied fully by photovoltaic panels linked to on-site battery storage.
