West of Market is a contemporary residence in Kirkland, Washington, designed by Sticklab Architecture. The project involves the remodel of an existing home on a gently sloping, narrow lot, with views toward Lake Washington. The brief called for improved daylight, outdoor connectivity, and updated finishes while taking full advantage of the site’s topography.
The design uses large windows and an open floor plan to maximize natural light throughout the interior and create direct visual and spatial connections to the outdoors. Sunken gardens, terraced plantings, and covered outdoor spaces occupy changes in grade, providing areas for gathering and quiet reflection within modern landscaping. Finishes include new cabinetry, fixtures, and lighting, as well as ceilings that feature cedar and metal detailing, maintaining a cohesive material language across the home. Collaboration with a lighting designer informed solutions that support the contemporary character of the house.
