Sueberkrop/Blakemore Residence

The Sueberkrop/Blakemore Residence by Studios Architecture sits on a steep, wooded site in Inverness, California, close to Tomales Bay and the Point Reyes National Seashore. The project responds to its immediate context of coastal woodland and historic rural buildings, balancing the need for privacy with a focus on the surrounding landscape and bay views. The architecture contrasts two distinct characters: toward neighbors, the house takes the form of a wood cabin, while on the down-slope it presents a glass and steel volume raised on stilts. Materials were chosen for durability against harsh coastal conditions, with concrete walls anchoring the structure and an eroded wooden shell enveloping a glazed steel frame. Wooden decks and an enclosed glass dining area project outward, creating the impression of floating among the trees. The site is further organized by a series of garden walls, decks, a garage, and a gate house, defining an outdoor compound engaged with the terrain.
