Sparano Mooney Architecture — Emigration Canyon, UT, 2025

The Wabi-Sabi project features a modern minimalist house perched on a hillside with expansive floor-to-ceiling glazing.

Wabi-Sabi is a 4,000 square-foot residence by Sparano Mooney Architecture, located in Emigration Canyon, Utah, and completed in 2025. The house was designed for a young family who sought a close connection to the canyon setting, shaping a plan that maximizes access to views and engages the natural landscape. The dwelling is organized into two cantilevered volumes, one oriented east-west to frame mountain views and contain private spaces, and another aligned with the canyon axis to accommodate public and gathering areas. Each wing floats above the terrain, minimizing site disturbance and maintaining natural stormwater runoff.
