BRAVE / ARCHITECTURE — Galveston, TX, 2022

The Arnold Beach House features an elevated design with a distinctive sharp angled roof and mixed siding colors.

Arnold Beach House is an 1,875-square-foot seasonal residence completed in 2022 by BRAVE / ARCHITECTURE on a coastal site in Galveston, Texas. The house sits elevated above grassy dunes, set back from the shoreline with access to nearby channels and the Gulf. The design responds to its context and the client’s brief for a modest, functional retreat, including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and communal living and dining areas. An asymmetrical open and covered deck extends from the main entry, accessed via tapered stairs, offering both arrival and outdoor gathering space. Material selection was guided by budget considerations, resulting in primarily neutral finishes with targeted color accents. The exterior reflects sunset hues, while seafoam green tile and custom millwork in blue and yellow enliven the interior. The home's distinctive pitched roof provides both visual character and spatial volume, sheltering the main living areas and a loft accessed by a stair behind the kitchen. Ample windows bring in natural light and provide panoramic views of the surrounding coastal landscape.
