Woven House

Woven House, designed by Bruns Architecture, stands on the eastern edge of Lake Winnebago. Though the family resides in New York, longstanding connections to Wisconsin shaped the brief for a gathering place that maintains a strong relationship to the lakeshore. The house is elevated fully above grade in response to its waterfront site, concentrating all major living spaces, utilities, and storage above ground. Public rooms for entertaining are arranged prominently near the main entry, while an office and the bedrooms are sited for privacy. The composition is defined by two gabled volumes, joined by a single-story element that weaves between and connects the taller forms. The two-story bedroom wing is rotated to widen lake views and draw additional light, while also increasing outdoor space for gatherings. This orientation provides clear separation between social and private zones. The exterior and interior balance black and white finishes, reflecting the owners’ preferences, with wood accents bringing warmth into the minimal, modern scheme.
