Thunder Road Reaches is a 10,000-square-foot residential compound designed by Turkel Design and located along a tributary of the Snake River near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The project responds to the brief for a year-round home that reinterprets the traditional family farm compound of the owners’ Texas heritage, supporting gatherings for a growing, multigenerational family. The site, positioned at the edge of an open meadow, is organized to optimize privacy and take full advantage of views toward Rendezvous Peak and the Grand Teton range. The compound comprises several related structures, including a main house, guesthouse, and gear barn. The main house features varied accommodations: bunk rooms for grandchildren, private ensuite bedrooms for the second generation, and a primary suite occupying the upper floor with its own den and a roof terrace. Central gathering spaces are arranged around a large kitchen, a great room with a fireplace, and a bar and game room intended as social hubs. Design strategies such as gently rising rooflines and screened, operable walls create visual openness and encourage airflow, as well as auditory connection with the surrounding river and landscape.
