Nwankpa Design — Los Angeles, CA, 2022

The Sky View Residence features wood and stucco cladding with black-framed windows and a two-car garage door in Los Angeles.

Sky View Residence by Nwankpa Design is a 2,900-square-foot, two-story single-family home completed in 2022 in the coastal Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles. Designed for a small-scale developer, the project responds to its suburban context with a contemporary interpretation of local vernacular, organizing the massing into three distinct pitched roof forms. The program includes four bedrooms and five bathrooms, distributed to maximize both privacy and natural light. The architecture features natural cedar siding combined with smooth stucco, emphasizing clean lines and a rhythmic roof profile. Angled clerestory windows align with the pitches of the roof, introducing daylight deep into the second-floor bedrooms and framing views skyward. Collaborating with Hoover Interiors, the architects extended the roofline’s visual narrative into the interiors, where spatial sequences follow the lines established by the facade. The combination of materials and geometries shapes an evolving experience from street approach to private retreat, integrating connection to the California climate within a tailored suburban setting.
