Cold Lake

Round Table Design Studio — Cherry Log, Georgia

Modern cabin exterior featuring large floor-to-ceiling windows and a wood deck surrounding trees.

Cold Lake is a pair of 1,200-square-foot retreats designed by Round Table Design Studio in the forested landscape of Cherry Log, Georgia. Conceived as distinct but related structures, the project responds to a steep, wooded site by elevating each house among the trees, limiting ground disturbance and immersing occupants in their mountain surroundings. The brief called for homes that could serve as both private retreats and settings for gatherings, with a strong emphasis on outdoor living and connection to the forest environment. The design uses double-height volumes, generous glazing, and carefully positioned rooms to orient interior spaces toward views of the tree canopy. Open lofted areas and dynamic volumes create varied spatial experiences within the compact footprint. Outdoor spaces, including multiple decks, balconies, and gathering areas, extend living beyond the envelope while features such as private saunas and a slide from an upper deck underscore the project's playful character. The arrangement of both shared and private areas, layered vertically through the structures, supports a sense of discovery and site engagement.
