Crabtree Architecture + Design — CAYUCOS CA

Entry exterior featuring stone, wood siding, gray metal panels, and a gable roof with exposed wood beams at Cayucos Ranch.

Cayucos Ranch is a 4,800-square-foot residential compound designed by Crabtree Architecture + Design in northern San Luis Obispo County. Located on a private ranch that was once an operating hog farm, the project emerged from the owner's desire to create a family retreat anchored in personal and family history, as well as in their Swiss heritage. The architectural approach draws on a modern barn idiom, highlighted by exposed structural beams and cedar siding. Details from the site’s agricultural past are woven into the house, such as a dining room wall constructed from repurposed hog panels and other salvaged farm elements. As a specific nod to heritage, each exposed rafter tail is hand-branded with the Swiss flag. The result is a set of interconnected spaces that maintain strong visual and material connections to both the landscape and the family's origins.
