Stelle Architects — Bridgehampton, New York

Dune Road Residence, designed by Stelle Architects, is located on an oceanfront site in Bridgehampton, New York. Replacing an earlier house that was built into the dune prior to stricter coastal regulations, the project was shaped by a brief that sought to preserve the scale and dynamic relationship of the original structure with its surroundings. The new residence was elevated to comply with current standards, while respecting the established footprint and spirit of the site. The three-level home is organized to provide distinct zones for owners, guests, and shared living and dining. The architecture is characterized by Alaskan cedar shingle cladding combined with large glass sections, forming simple pavilion-like volumes. A negative edge pool sits seaward of the house, which is accessed via a landscaped path running from the garage along the pool. Solar overhangs modulate sunlight along the southern facade, while extra thick walls deliver enhanced insulation. A geothermal system is integrated for cooling, contributing to the environmental strategy of the residence.
