747 Wing House

The 747 Wing House is a residential project completed by Studio of Environmental Architecture in 2011, situated in the hills above Malibu, California. The design responds to a client request for a house with a prominent, sweeping roofline and a site perched in the Santa Monica Mountains, characterized by expansive views and rugged terrain. The architect employed repurposed components from a decommissioned Boeing 747 to achieve the curvilinear roof form, integrating the aircraft's wings as structural and visual elements. This approach reuses post-consumer materials in place of traditional construction, giving the house its distinctive silhouette. The structure demonstrates how industrial remnants can be adapted for residential architecture while addressing both aesthetic and environmental considerations.
