Mid-century Inspired ADU

Mid-century Inspired ADU by studio RALLYMADE is an 800-square-foot accessory dwelling unit located in Southwest Portland, Oregon. Situated high on the slopes of the West Hills, the project was shaped by the intent to integrate the new structure within the existing tree canopy while maintaining a discreet presence along the street front. Site conditions called for careful planning to address privacy, optimize views, and maximize efficiency in the limited footprint. The design employs strategies referenced from mid-century modernism, focusing on clarity of layout and connection to the landscape. Interior space is organized to ensure functionality within a compact plan, while openings are positioned to draw in natural light and frame surrounding treetop views. Material choices and exterior detailing allow the ADU to blend with neighboring residences, supporting the sense that it has a long-standing place within the neighborhood context.
