Palisades House is a substantial renovation of a single-family residence in Los Angeles, situated on a steep site adjacent to a small creek. The design was guided by the objective of forging stronger connections between the interiors and the outdoors, especially toward the newly landscaped rear yard. An upper deck, accessed from the living room, extends into the trees and bamboo, offering a private outlook. A lower deck links the master bedroom and two children's bedrooms, creating informal seating areas alongside a jacuzzi tub. The renovation included a compact addition to accommodate a new bedroom and bathroom, the introduction of exterior decks, and the integration of a steel stair and bridge. Interior spaces were reorganized, notably with a redesigned kitchen centered around an oversized island that also functions as a family dining area, illuminated by a large north-facing skylight. Externally, the house was re-clad in a combination of mahogany siding, weathering steel, and smooth stucco, updating its appearance while responding to the site's natural context.
