Madrona residence

Madrona residence by Vandeventer+Carlander Architects occupies a narrow urban lot in Seattle, Washington. The design was shaped by the challenge of maximizing both natural light and privacy, accommodating the clients' contrasting preferences for living at grade and above. The house arranges its program vertically, with living spaces at ground level, bedrooms on the second floor, and a shared office connecting to rooftop decks on the third level. The efficient linear plan incorporates a compact core for services. Large areas of glazing on the south facade introduce daylight, moderated by a cedar sun screen for privacy and solar control. Clear cedar siding and fibre cement panels define the exterior palette.
