Will Bruder + Partners — Paradise Valley, Arizona.
The Jarson Residence was designed by Will Bruder + Partners for a family with a strong appreciation for modern architecture, set in Paradise Valley, Arizona. Sited near a city mountain preserve, the house is positioned within a desert wash and oriented to capture distant views of the McDowell Mountains. The design brief emphasized quiet reflection while responding to the rugged topography and the family's daily needs. The two-story structure takes the form of a simple shed roof with deep overhangs, rendered in weathered steel and copper, presenting a dark, sculptural presence in the desert environment. The plan arranges entry, office, and bedrooms on the upper floor, allowing these spaces to function as gallery areas for the owners’ art collection. The primary living and dining areas, along with a media/music room and potter's studio, are located on the lower level, partially beneath the entry. Material selections include cork and concrete flooring, translucent glass partitions, and cabinetry in cherry and stainless steel. Outdoor spaces are integrated through a weathered steel swimming pool and a shaded, raised gravel terrace adjoining the natural desert landscape. The circulation, particularly the stair descending along the angled south facade, creates moments of connection to both the interior and surrounding landscape.
