Sail Loft House
Sail Loft House, designed by 361 Architecture, is located on the California coast just outside Stinson Beach, overlooking a lagoon and the rising hills to the east. The brief prioritized access to water views and a close connection to the natural landscape, leading to a building form inspired by the open, tensile character of traditional sail lofts—spaces defined by generous communal volumes and unobstructed outlooks. The house employs prefabricated structural panels, allowing for a disciplined and energy-efficient shell. Large picture windows frame the hillside scenery, while sliding glass doors open the main living areas directly onto a deck and garden, reducing the boundary between interior and exterior. The resulting space supports communal living while maintaining quiet performance and emphasizing the visual expanse of the site.
