Tejon Guesthouse

Tejon Guesthouse is a detached accessory dwelling designed by a21 and completed in 2018 on a residential lot in Denver's Sunnyside neighborhood. The project was conceived for a growing family and positioned adjacent to an original 1895 house, requiring sensitivity to the site's historic context. The new structure uses a gabled roof profile reminiscent of classic shed forms, referencing nearby historic outbuildings. This approach allows the guesthouse to recede visually and complement the architectural language of the main residence, rather than compete with it. The building is sited to frame the property's gardens, creating a subdued setting for outdoor spaces while integrating new and old elements in a unified residential setting.
